Velenje je eno najpomembnejših gospodarskih središč Slovenije ter zaposlitveno, upravno in izobraževalno središče Savinjsko-šaleške regije. Obsega 25 naselij, v katerih živi okoli 33 tisoč ljudi. Župan Mestne občine Velenje je Peter Dermol, ki je bil izvoljen na lokalnih volitvah 20. 11. 2022.

University of Ljubljana

The University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education, scientific and research institution in Slovenia, ranking among the top 3% of universities in the world. It was founded in 1919. We connect researchers with industry, help with the commercialisation of inventions and creation of spin-outs. We are also responsible for legal protection of intellectual property. The 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 Office offers professional research support services with the aim to secure national and international research funding. We assist researchers in the pre-award phase providing high-level strategic and administrative support at all levels and career stages. The Office also supports institutional and national research initiatives such as ethics and integrity, policy, research promotion, and infrastructures. Also working at the University: Office of international cooperation and Doctoral school.

Pivovarna Laško Union

Pivovarna Laško Union (PLU) is the largest manufacturer of beverages in Slovenia, and employs almost 500 people. The company, 100% owned by the Dutch international brewer Heineken, was created in 2016 with the merger of Pivovarna Laško and Pivovarna Union, thus inheriting nearly 200 years of Slovenian brewing tradition. This is the heritage that our staff at Pivovarna Laško Union continue to build on to this day. With two manufacturing plants in Ljubljana and Laško, PLU is the leading brewer and a highly competitive producer of refreshing soft drinks in Slovenia.
